FRSC denies chasing driver who killed two policemen in Ilesha

The Federal Road Safety Corps has denied being responsible for the accident which claimed the lives of two mobile policemen along the Osogbo-Ilesa Road.

A suspected internet fraudster driving a Toyota Camry, identified as Muyiwa, reportedly drove recklessly and crushed two policemen at a checkpoint to death Tuesday.

However, the Unit Commander of the FRSC in Ilesa, Mr. Samuel Oyedeji, in a statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Thursday debunked the claim, as published on an online medium that the crash was caused by a patrol team of the FRSC.

Oyedeji explained that the FRSC patrol team was only informed of the accident by some motorists plying the route.

The statement read, “On getting to the scene of the crash, it was discovered that a private vehicle, Toyota Camry, with registration number MUS 313 ET ran into the policemen, who were performing their duty.

“The crash claimed the lives of the two policemen and rescue operation was carried out by our men, contrary to the report that the crash was caused by the FRSC patrol team.

“According to the team leader, the team, with the assistance of other sister agencies (police and VIO) carried out the rescue operations by carrying the dead to the Wesley Guild Hospital morgue, while the team assisted in taking the driver of the Camry to Ayeso Police Station where he was locked up.”
