A 35-year-old woman, Bukola Omotayo, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Osun over alleged theft of 15 bags of rice.
Omotayo is facing a charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp Taiwo Adegoke, told the court that the accused committed the offence in July at Ayoola street, Osogbo.
Adegoke told the court that the accused stole 15 bags of rice which the complainant, Muyiwa Agarah, kept in her care as sales representative.
“The accused was a former sales representative working for the complainant, but she failed to remit the money for the 15 bags of rice which she sold,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.11 Laws of Osun, 2003.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs Olubukola Awodele, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Awodele said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and show evidence of tax payment.
He also ordered the two sureties to submit two passports photographs each to be attached to an affidavit of means.
The case was adjourned till Sept. 6 for hearing.
