An end to the crises bedevilling Ladoke Akintola University (Lautech) , Ogbomoso, may not be in sight anytime soon as former students of the institution are poised for showdown with the 5-man team tagged “Fund Lautech” put in place to raise a billion naira for the institution occasioned by the current financial crisis facing it.
The fresh face off between the alumni and the 5-man team, The Controversy learnt, is said to be brewing over the alleged activities of the team said to be at variance with the purpose it was established for.
Lautech has been engulfed in industrial crises as a result of the inability of the owner states, Oyo and Osun to pay salaries running into many months which prompted workers of the university to embark on strike action, leading to the closure of the institution.
As a way out of the logjam, some erstwhile products of Lautech in concert with some well meaning Nigerians, offered to raise N1b as their contribution aimed at cushioning the effect of the suffering of the university workers.
However, former students of the university operating under the aegis of the institution’s alumni association, issued a stern warning to the five- man “Fund Lautech” team to stop playing to the gallery.
Speaking through its National President, Mr Babajide Bewaji in a statement made available to The Controversy, the association accused the 5-man team of misleading the public through their activities.
“The institution is faced with serious financial crisis which the “Fund Lautech” team initiative aims to resolve by raising N 1b (One billion Naira) as a short term palliative. This initiative was well received and supported by me but not in concomitant with the way it’s being pursued by visiting political gladiators to achieve this” Bewaji lamented.
While further castigating the team, he decried their modus operandi, stressing, “The recent visit of this team to the Chairman of the Governing Council is self serving and disturbing. I need to ask, ‘On which platform did they do this?”
“Upon the appointment of the Chairman of the Governing Council, I had a discussion with him as the National President and member of the council, where the issue of resumption was discussed and also other issues of concern raised by some of our members” noted the association’s boss.
Bewaji bemoaned that the team had derailed from its main course,” we have an association that warehouses all the graduates with our thoughts and ideas, why would there be a parallel formation if we are all working towards the same interest? ”
“I don’t also see the reason why the supposed crisis-solving visits of the team should be taken to the social media at every instance. The association has made countless visits to governors and others without making it public owing to the sensitivity of the crisis at hand. This calls for concern”
The Alumni President further regretted that as a result of the activities of the group, the public and stakeholders have continued to bombard him with enquiries ,stressing, “I have been inundated with several calls from different quarters on the need to call this team to order”
He maintained that for the desired result to be achieved, there would be the need for all hands to be on deck, adding, “In the interest of peace, oneness, tranquility and greater LAUTECH, I call on Fund Lautech to desist from all activities that run parallel to the constitution of our association. Together we can achieve more”
