Arrest, arraignment of Fatai Diekola not political – CP

By Hameed Oyegbade

The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye on Thursday said the arrest of a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress Alhaji Fatai Diekola who was arraigned in court and remanded in prison was not politically motivated.

Adeoye explained that the arrest and arraignment of Diekola became necessary to forestall breakdown of law and order in the state, particularly in Osogbo, the state capital where the APC chieftain hails from.

The CP said that Diekola and others were arrested based on the intelligence and that their case was handled in accordance with the law.

According to him, “Any arrest made by the police is not for any individual’s interest but rather in the interest of justice and fairness.

“When an individual commits an offence, such person will be dealt with in accordance with the law irrespective of his status or political affiliation.

“We are carrying out our statutory responsibility. We should know when an individual commits an offence; the political status of such person does not matter. The police in the state ‎has been doing its work with utmost sense of professionalism”, Adeoye said.
