Parent Assaults School Teacher, Sues School

A popular private school in Osun State, Olive Branches High School, is currently in dilemma on how to restore morale in her workforce after a show of shame by  a parent in the school.

Our correspondent gathered that penultimate last week, a female parent came to the school with her sister to beat up Mrs Toyin A., a pregnant teacher, over allegations that she reprimanded her child, a second grade female student.

Another teacher, Mrs Dada E., who tried to reason and plead with the aggrieved parent was also beaten up by the enraged parent.

Mrs Adeyokunnu’s husband who happens to be an officer with the Nigerian Security (NSCDC) and Mrs Edith’s husband who works with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), both reported the case at the office of the State Security Service (SSS). The issue was settled amicably between the warring parties.

However, days after, the parent later filed a lawsuit against the school asking for the school and its teachers to apologize to her child on assembly ground.

A number of parents our correspondent spoke with condemned the act and warned the school authority about setting a dangerous precedence. They identified with the teacher and apologized to her. According to an inside source, the school is currently in a dilemma on how best to handle the situation and restore morale amidst her workforce.
