Osun West By-Election – Adeleke May Emerge PDP Candidate

By Temitope Oguntayo

The much talked about Osun West Senatorial District by-election to determine who succeeds the Late Senator Isiaka Adeleke is taking a new turn. The All Progressive Congress (APC) has been embroiled in crisis over the past few days as to who emerges their candidate for the upcoming by-election slated for July 8th.

It is understood that the home based camp in the All Progressive Congress (APC) comprising of Alhaji Fatai Diekola, Hon Lasun Yussuff and the structure of the Late Senator Isiaka Adeleke are trying to present Dr. Ademola Adeleke, the Late Senator’s younger brother as their candidate while the Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola is giving his support to Senator Mudasiru Hussein.

Senator Mudasiru Hussein who was early this week disqualified over his inability to resign his appointment as Commissioner, submitted an appeal which was also dismissed. It took a high level political lobbying by Ogbeni Aregbesola before his candidacy was restored after an intervention by the National Working Committee (NWC).

However, there is a high level political arrangement going on and it is most likely Dr. Ademola Adeleke will be decamping to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as he stands little chance against the machinery of Governor Rauf Aregbesola in the APC primaries.

Senator Olasunkanmi Akinlabi Abdulrasheed, the favourite to win tomorrow’s primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is however being pressured to drop his ambition for Dr. Ademola Adeleke, hence, the postponement of the primaries till June 14th.
