Coroner Summons Dr Deji Adeleke, his sister, Dupe, Four Others

By Dayo Omolola

Seemingly unperturbed by the furore generated by the propriety or otherwise of having a panel to investigate the cause of the death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke,  the coroner inquest put in place by the Rauf  Aregbesola Administration, has swung into action by inviting six people including two siblings of the  deceased,  Dr Deji Adeleke  and Mrs Dupe Adeleke Sanni to appear before it.

The panel headed by Magistrate Olusegun Ayodele Ayilara which began sitting on Monday, 8th May, at the  premises of the state High Court, Osogbo, equally summoned the state Commissioner of Police, the Chief Medical Directors of Lautech Teaching Hospital and Biket Hospital, Osogbo  as well as  the Executive Secretary of Ede South Local Government.

Letters summoning the aforementioned  exclusively obtained  by The Controversy,  were dated  Monday, 8th May 2017 and signed by the Coroner, Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara.

According to the letters addressed to them individually, all those invited are expected to appear before the panel on Wednesday 10th May,  2017 by 9am.

Meanwhile sources close to the  panel told The Controversy that more people would be invited within the three weeks of time frame given to it by the government.

It will be recalled that Senator Adeleke died on Sunday,  23rd April, 2017, ,amidst speculations that his death was unnatural .

As a result of the heat caused by the development, the  Aregbesola government in a bid absolved itself of having any link with the death,  set up a coroner inquest.

However the family of the late Adeleke who was the first civilian governor of the state, distanced themselves from such inquest.

Addressing the press, while lampooning the Aregbesola administration for allegedly ‘dancing on the grave’ of the late Senator through such panel whose outcome they claimed, had been predetermined,  the family through Dr Deji Adeleke, vowed not to have anything to do with the panel.

They further warned doctors not to tamper with the autopsy report which they insisted was yet to be made public.

In a quick response to the Adelekes, the state government said the inquest was a standard practice in civilized environment, adding that it actions were predicated to this effect,  on the existing norms.

Sources close to the family of the late Adeleke ,however  told The Controversy that  it was unlikely they honour  the panel’ summons, stressing, “i doubt it. I don’t think neither Dr Deji nor auntie Dupe or anybody whatsoever within the family, will grace such a panel put in place by Aregbesola. The mood in the family has seriously been fouled by Aregbesola, one way or the other ”
