Tragedy struck at Akinleye village near Osu, headquarter of Atakumosa West local government area of Osun State on Saturday when one Kazeem Ayoola dismembered his 85-year old mother.
The old woman, Taibat Ayoola was macheted to death for reason best known to her assailant who did not deny the dastardly act when apprehended.
The Osun State police command who confirmed the criminal act through its Police Public Relations Officer, Folashade Odoro said Kazeem has since been arrested and kept in their custody.
Odoro said Kazeem killed his mother for no just cause saying that the suspect was going through interrogation adding that police would get to the root of the matter.
She assured the people that the suspect would be arraigned in court immediately investigation was concluded.
Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased according to the PPRO have been deposited at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex mortuary at Ile-Ife for autopsy.
