Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Suleiman Gbadegesin yesterday said the institution has received N500 million from the Osun and Oyo governments to pay salary arrears.
The Vice Chancellor said this in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, when he appeared before the House of Assembly to defend the university’s N9.9 billion budget.
He said the institution received alerts of N250 million each from the two owner-states.
Recall that the Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, had earlier promised that the Institution would be opened before the end of the month and that practical steps were being taken to end the industrial action.
Thanking Governors Rauf Aregbesola (Osun) and Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo) for their efforts in ensuring the re-opening of the school, the VC said the money would go a long way in offsetting the arrears.
LAUTECH workers had been on strike in the last eight months. The Chairman of the Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Kamil Oyedele said the Assembly under its present leadership would continue to offer support to the university.
