Osun to sanction owners of buildings close to roads

The Osun State Government has warned owners of buildings erected close to the road and within the Right of Way in Osogbo to desist or face sanctions.
Nurudeen Adeagbo, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Transport, gave the warning on Monday in Osogbo.
Adeagbo said such buildings were built along Orisumbare Market, Oja-Oba and other places in Osogbo.
He said: “In as much as the state government appreciates developments, it will not tolerate a breach of the law.
“No builder will be allowed to contravene the prescribed 30-metre setback from the centre of the road in accordance with the highway manual of the Federal Ministry of Works, Power and Housing.”
The permanent secretary said that it was already in the plan of the state government to develop the roads in question into a dual carriageway in the nearest future.
He warned that government would not allow such actions to jeopardise its landmark intention.
Adeagbo said: “Any developer or owner of such buildings that falls within the Statutory Right of Way of 30 metres from the centre of the road, both left and right will not be compensated by the state government when such structures are removed.
“Rather, such owners will be sanctioned for contravening the law after the building or property must have been demolished.”
