What Arrest? AIG Aderanti pays friendly visit to Oluwo of Iwo

By Editor

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Zone II, Kayode Aderanti, yesterday paid homage and a friendly visit to the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi.

The Oluwo of Iwo, has been in the news lately over a bench warrant issued by an Osun Magistrate, Mr Olusola Aluko.

The Magistrate’s court, presided over by Mr. Olusola Aluko, had, on December 20, issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the traditional ruler for refusing to appear in court in a case instituted against him by the Oluwo of Iwo Oke, Oba Kadiri Adeoye.

Responding to the warrant, Oba Akanbi said he was not a fraudster and would not appear before Aluko, alleging that the case had been compromised. He said, “It is a shame on the judiciary to have such magistrate. There is no indictment; no case at all; somebody just brought a worthless paper before  you. It is a civil case and you are relying on that to issue a warrant of arrest.

Meanwhile, The Osun state police commissioner Fimihan Adeoye has said that he was not aware of any bench warrant of arrest against the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi.

The police boss said he has not been briefed about the development and warned that the police should not be dragged into Obaship tussle because of the sensitivity of such matter.

His words “I have not been briefed about any bench warrant of arrest against the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi. Police cannot be dragged into this because Obaship tussle is a sensitive matter. We have our legal department in the police and we will act appropriately within the ambit of the law”.

In a brief chat with some residents of Iwo town, many of whom were Christians believe the Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi is doing well for the town and should be commended not harassed and subjected to the embarrassment he’s going through.

With the latest visit of the leadership of the Police Hierarchy to the King and the official response of the Osun State Commissioner of Police, It looks as if the Police authorities will not be honouring the bench warrant issued by the Magistrate Court.
