Oba Rasheed Initiates Rehabilitation Of Osogbo-Iwo Road

The traditional ruler‎ of Iwo Land, Oba Abdul Rasheed Akanbi, has initiated the rehabilitation of the long abandoned 44-kilometre Osogbo – Iwo – Ibadan road.

Relief appears to have come the way of road users in the area as the project is expected to bring ease to the myriad of problems often experienced by motorists on the road which links the state capital.

The Osogbo-Iwo-Iba‎dan road is one major road that has been a source of worry to many motorists who travel in and out of Oyo into Osun state.

It had long been abandoned by many who equally complain of the effects on their vehicles. It had also become a haven for robbers.

Although the project had been handed over to various contractors in the past, residents say the 44-kilometer ‎road remains one of the worst routes for
motorist because of its deplorable state.

Recently, the state of the road, however, got the attention of the traditional monarch of Iwo, who along with youths of the community and other subjects, commenced rehabilitation in order to restore it back to a motorable state.

A member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Akinade Adesola, as well as the Project Manager of the Rural Access and Mobility Programme, Mr Lere Oriolowo, believe that ‎the initiative would go a long way in alleviating the hardship experienced on the Iwo-Osogbo road.

However, the rehabilitation work being carried out presently is palliative, as the traditional ruler and other stakeholders are still appealing to the federal and state governments to begin major work as fast as possible.
