Peace Corp batters two Osun pupils for going out of school for food

By Mustapha Aleem

Some men of the Peace corp attached to the Muslim Middle school 2 in Oke Osun, have been alleged of taking lashes at two students of the school.

It was gathered that the students, after they had gone out of school to get food at lunch break, were captured and reportedly battered by the members of the Peace and Unity Corp, when they were eventually locked up.

It was also gathered that, the students were three in number, before the third person escaped from the men.

Not pleased with the treatment meted out on the pupils, one of the parents of the Students lamented, ” my son was locked and beat up for no reason.” She stressed that, the peace corp had no authority to brutalise students in such manner.

One of the students, who was captured, Waheed Idris, explained that, he and his two other friends, went out to get food during the school break period, when they were accosted by members of the Peace corp. He said they were accused of disturbing the peace of the school before they were locked up beaten severely.

An eye witness, who refused to give his name explained that, the students were arrested for disrupting the peace of the school.

Our correspondence learnt, there were obvious cane marks all over the body of the students which indicated that they were beaten.

The Commander, Peace Corp, Osogbo Local Government, Patriot Akande Olawale, predicated that, the students were arrested for disrupting the peace of the school, and they were heading for the Principal of the school, stressing the Principal therefore, gave the order that the students be kept in custody of the corps until their parents show up.

He added that, although the peace corp had no right to persecute, that their job is to arrest and hand over who ever they arrest to the police.

As of the time of filling this report, relatives of the student were on the verge of down turning the peace of the school, ensuing beating up of some peace corp members.

However the Police were on hand to douse the potential chaos before it got to head. Efforts to reach the school principal proved abortive as he was said to have been moved away from the school’s vicinity.
