The Management of the Osun State University, has said that the recent upward review of the tuition fees to be paid by it students still remained as some students were said to be owing the institution about 500 million naira.
This disclosure was made at a Parents, Students, Forum held on Friday, and presided over by the Dean of Students’ Affairs of the institution, Dr. Segun Adebisi.
While reacting to the dismay expressed by the students over the new policies, Dr. Segun Adebisi, said the school had no funds left in its purse, stressing that, the decision was made for precautionary purpose due to the way tuition fees were being paid in school.
Speaking on the issue of the annual payment for the Parent Forum due, she explained that, there were two options for the management, either to pay the N5000 naira upfront or to pay it per session for 1000 naira.
“I told the management that they will have to pick one, either make it N5000 at a go without annual payment or N1000 naira per session.”
Dr. Adebisi stated that the Tertiary Social Health Insurance Programme, which the students also kicked against, was not the school management’s motive but that of the Federal government, saying there was a physical evidence of the letter available.
There were controversial issues however, surrounding the agreed decisions, as eyebrows are now being raised over the number of parents who attended the Parents’ Forum, where the claimed obnoxious policies were made.
It was learnt that 11,000 parents made up the Parent forum, but only 300 parents were at the meeting when the decisions were made. Hence, a looming action over the new policies.
