Hard times await state -owned tertiary institutions in Oyo state as Governor Abiola Ajimobi has stopped government subventions to all the seven tertiary institutions in the state including the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology ((LAUTECH) Ogbomoso which is jointly owned by Osun state government.
The government in a letter to the Vice Chancellors, Rectors and Provosts of the institutions signed by the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Abimbola Adekanmbi entitled “Stoppage of Subvention” and dated September 20 said it would not be able to continue with the grant of subventions to them.
The letter was addressed to the Vice Chancellor, LAUTECH Ogbomoso, Rectors of the Polytechnic,Ibadan, Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa and Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, provosts of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, College of Education, Lanlate and Oyo State College of Agriculture, Igboora.
The letter marked HCF/Corr. Gen./23 ” dated September 20 read in part, “we refer to discussions the government has held with you in the recent past on the subject of subventions.”.
“We write to inform you that the state government is unable to continue with the grant of subventions to your institutions. Please, note that there are no arreas or financial obligations past, present or future arising from this decision of government”.
“Already, some of the management of the institutions have passed the message to their staff to prepare them for the
challenges that may follow the government’s decision.
“Some staff of the institutions are already exercising fears that the state government may go further to retrench some of them.
